Financial Hurdles Threaten Medical Care for Bandung False Imprisonment Victim
YTR, a victim of false imprisonment and violence by her boyfriend in Bandung, is facing another challenge. Currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bandung, she is at risk of being discharged due to financial constraints. The family stated that YTR’s treatment is not covered by BPJS (the national health insurance). To date, the total hospital bill has reached approximately Rp40 million. This information was conveyed by the victim’s sister-in-law, Melanie, during a podcast with Denny Sumargo released on Sunday, 21 June 2026. “Yes, we received news when we arrived here that Vita had to go home yesterday because there was a bill from the hospital that hasn’t been paid yet. I understand it cannot be covered by BPJS,” Melanie said, as quoted on Monday, 22 June 2026. Melanie further explained that the family had also applied for a Surat Keterangan Tidak Mampu (SKTM), a certificate of indigence for medical treatment. However, this certificate cannot be used at the current hospital. “We can’t use the SKTM because this is a major hospital; SKTM can usually only be used at regional hospitals. As of yesterday, the bill had reached Rp40 million,” she added. The victim’s brother, Apip, noted that the costs were high due to the lengthy treatment required. Meanwhile, YTR, contacted via video call, stated that her condition has improved after being reunited with her parents following the three-year ordeal. “Alhamdulillah, I am feeling much better now after meeting my parents, and I am still in the hospital,” she said. She also expressed feeling much calmer and missing her parents deeply. During the conversation, YTR conveyed her wish to regain her eyesight and to return to work soon so she can help her parents financially. “I want to see again. I want to work, or if I can’t, I can sell things from home. I want to help my parents,” she said.
