Finance Ministry to Take Over PT KCIC, Operator of Whoosh

JAKARTA - The government, through Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, will take over PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the joint venture between Indonesia and the People’s Republic of China that manages Whoosh.

“It is already done, just the formalities left. But I cannot announce it yet, because I am not the only one involved. It will be announced later. But it is already clear how the management will be handled. It will be announced at the appropriate time,” said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

“Yes, possibly, this is what we are… Insha’Allah, hopefully it will be finished soon, we think about it one by one,” stated Dony.

“If it is not final yet now. We will update later, afraid it will cause a stir again,” he added.

According to Dony, the option for taking over KCIC will be finalised in another 1-2 months.

Meanwhile, Dony also discussed the fate of other consortium members such as WIKA and KAI, which are also in KCIC.

“We will settle that all at once. We want everything to be finished thoroughly at once, we will return them to their portions, for example, WIKA is not in that field, we will focus on contractors. So we settle one by one. We want everything to be resolved thoroughly,” explained Dony.
