Finance Ministry Ensures 2027 Draft State Budget Continues to Support Priority Programmes
The government has ensured that various national priority programmes will remain the focus in the preparation of the 2027 Draft State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBN), even as global economic uncertainty continues to loom. At the same time, the government is striving to maintain fiscal discipline so that the state budget can continue to support economic growth and improve public welfare.
Director General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Sudarto, stated that global economic pressures are expected to continue affecting trade, supply chains, and international investment. This situation means the drafting of the 2027 RAPBN is being designed carefully to maintain a balance between financing priority programmes and fiscal health.
“The state budget has a strategic role in carrying out allocation and distribution functions, but also plays an active role as a catalyst for growth through government programmes, including empowering the private sector’s role as an engine of economic growth,” Sudarto said at the Public Consultation Forum for the State Budget Bill 2027.
According to Sudarto, the state budget not only functions as a state financing instrument but also acts as a buffer to maintain economic stability when global pressures increase. Therefore, the government is prioritising the principle of fiscal prudence so that budget capacity is maintained without reducing support for the development agenda.
He added that the preparation of the RAPBN also requires input from various groups so that the resulting fiscal policy is more credible, transparent, and capable of addressing evolving economic challenges.
“As a dynamic public policy instrument, the process of planning and formulating the state budget requires multiple perspectives from the public eye. Public perspective is needed as material for refinement as well as the embodiment of good governance,” Sudarto said.
The government previously affirmed that the state budget remains the main instrument to support various national priority programmes, including the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG), Sekolah Rakyat, and other development programmes. On the other hand, the government is also striving to maintain fiscal health so that budget capacity remains adequate to support economic growth, preserve people’s purchasing power, and maintain fiscal sustainability.
