Finance Minister Visits PBNU Headquarters, Discusses Collaboration on Waste-to-Fertiliser Project
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa visited the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) office on Wednesday (22/7/2026). He held a direct meeting with PBNU Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf. Following the meeting, Purbaya stated that his visit was primarily to maintain good relations, noting he had not visited since before the current board was in place. “It was a silaturahmi visit. I haven’t been to NU for a long time; I came here during the previous board’s tenure, before I became minister,” Purbaya said at the PBNU Central Office in Jakarta. He also revealed that he discussed strengthening collaboration between the government and mass organisation programmes with Gus Yahya. “There are several NU projects that the government might be able to support because their objectives are good. One of them is waste management, turning waste into fertiliser, materials to improve soil health, and building materials or boards. I’m not sure if it’s PCB board or something else, but it’s a good initiative,” Purbaya explained. Regarding the specific form of government support, Purbaya did not provide details but suggested it could include financial assistance. “So if the government can help, I think it would be great, so the project can run more smoothly. We will study the investment ideas; if they can proceed according to the existing pattern and the budget is manageable, we will support the initiatives undertaken by NU,” he asserted. After the visit, Purbaya expressed his pleasure at coming to the PBNU Central Office and meeting with the board. “My first impression is that the building has changed. It used to be rather dim and dark, but now it’s really bright. Everything has a modern style, so I am very happy to be here,” Purbaya remarked.
