Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Declines Comment on Major Ministry Reshuffle
Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati was reluctant to comment on reports of a massive rotation within the Ministry of Finance, particularly regarding strategic positions such as the Director General of Taxes and the Director General of Customs and Excise.
When met after attending the 18th Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI Session III Period, Sri Mulyani chose not to answer media questions regarding the reported changes to the two important positions and left when pressed on the matter.
Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara also did not provide direct confirmation, emphasising only that official information would be submitted at the right time. "It must be announced, when it is announced. It will be announced later," he said.
According to circulating reports, the position of Director General of Customs and Excise, currently held by Askolani, will be filled by Lieutenant General Djaka Utama, who presently serves as Main Secretary of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
Meanwhile, the position of Director General of Taxes, currently occupied by Suryo Utomo, is rumoured to be taken over by Bimo Wijayanto, a former Main Expert at Deputy II of the Presidential Staff Office. Bimo previously also served as Assistant Deputy for Strategic Investment at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
When asked to confirm these names, Suahasil reiterated that everything would be announced in due course. "It will be announced later," he said.
Director General of Taxes Suryo Utomo, when met at the DPR RI, also chose not to comment. "I'm not commenting. It will be announced later," he said.
