Finance Minister Purbaya Visits Malioboro Terrace and Beringharjo Market, Buys Batik Worth Rp10 Million Without Haggling

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa conducted a visit to centres of grassroots economic activity in Yogyakarta by stopping by Teras Malioboro and Pasar Beringharjo on Tuesday afternoon (17/3/2026). This visit forms part of efforts to monitor the vitality of traditional markets amid the current economic dynamics. Observations by Republika at the location showed that Purbaya’s visit began at Teras Malioboro. Not alone, the Finance Minister toured the area alongside the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, walking side by side as they entered the zone. The presence of these two figures immediately drew the attention of traders and tourists visiting the area. Occasionally, Purbaya greeted the traders who called his name and waved, even stopping for brief chats. At Teras Malioboro, Purbaya bought kaus and lurik typical of Yogyakarta. After that, the entourage continued the visit to Pasar Beringharjo, which is located directly across from that area.
