Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that he will not hold an open house during this year’s Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran celebrations. “No (open house), I think. I’m being frugal,” Purbaya said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3/2026). He even joked that open houses are not allowed this Lebaran. “No open house allowed, apparently,” he said. “I’m at the tax office, the Central Tax Office,” Purbaya revealed. Previously reported, President Prabowo Subianto has prohibited officials from holding lavish open houses during Eid al-Fitr 2026. “We must also set an example; open houses or whatever, don’t make them too extravagant,” Prabowo stated during a Cabinet meeting at the Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13/3/2026). According to him, officials must give an example to the people. “Our brothers and sisters in disaster areas, and in this atmosphere, we give an example to the people,” he said. “But we also shouldn’t completely close all events. Otherwise, our economy won’t run,” Prabowo added.
