Finance Minister Purbaya to Skip Open House During Eid: I'm Saving
Finance Minister (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that he will not hold an open house during Eid. He has chosen to save and celebrate modestly with his family.
“No open house allowed, they say. Probably not (an open house). I’m saving,” said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3/2026).
Purbaya said he will perform Eid prayers at the Central Office of the Directorate General of Taxation of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) later.
“I’m at taxes, the Central Tax Office,” Purbaya revealed.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto reminded his cabinet to avoid lavish open houses during the Eid festivities. According to him, officials must set an example.
“We must also set an example with open houses or whatever, not too lavish,” said Prabowo while leading the Full Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (13/3).
Prabowo mentioned that there are still people struggling after being affected by disasters. He then asked officials to set an example for the people.
Nevertheless, Prabowo said the instruction does not mean a total ban on officials holding open houses. Because that could impact the wheels of the economy.
“Our brothers in disaster areas and in this atmosphere, we set an example for the people, but we shouldn’t go total, so to speak, close all events, otherwise our economy won’t run,” he stated.
Following up on this, the Cabinet Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has issued a circular regarding Eid 2026 open house activities for all officials. Officials are asked not to hold open houses excessively.
“So we urge not to be too excessive when organising open house or halal bihalal activities,” said Prasetyo to reporters at the Defence Ministry office, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/3).
