Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will commence a roadshow to China on 16 June 2026 to promote the issuance of yuan-denominated sovereign bonds, known as Panda Bonds. A total of 15 investors have been scheduled to meet with the state treasurer. Purbaya confirmed the plan after a meeting at the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026. “It is in the context of meeting investors to issue Panda Bonds. There is no target yet, but I think there will be a lot,” he said. Suminto, Director General of Financing and Risk Management at the Ministry of Finance, explained that the visit is part of a regular non-deal roadshow. Promotion is essential as this will be the inaugural offering of the bonds. “Especially since this is the first issuance, we need to meet investors in mainland China, as well as the authorities,” he stated in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026. Suminto disclosed several institutional investors that Purbaya will meet this week, including Agricultural Bank of China, Zhong Ou Asset Management, and ICBC Wealth Management. The government will also appoint several financial institutions to act as Joint Lead Managers (JLMs) to arrange the distribution of the Panda Bonds. The plan to issue bonds denominated in currencies other than the US dollar is part of an effort to diversify financing. Purbaya previously stated that this move is a debt strategy amid the continued weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar. Following the marketing activities in China, Purbaya will also target bond markets in other countries as part of the diversification effort. After China, the Finance Minister will conduct a roadshow to the United Kingdom and meet investors in Europe. The Ministry of Finance previously issued Chinese Renminbi-denominated government securities (SUN) in the form of Dim Sum Bonds on 23 October 2025. These bonds were traded outside mainland China, such as in Hong Kong. According to the DJPPR, two series of Dim Sum Bonds were issued, namely RICNH1030 with a 5-year tenor and RICNH1035 with a 10-year tenor.
