Finance Minister Purbaya Targeted by Deep Fake and Hoax Regarding Rp 900 Billion Grant Programme

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A video circulating on social media, purportedly featuring Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, claims that the minister has inaugurated a Rp 900 billion grant programme and is inviting the public to register promptly. The video was uploaded via a TikTok account named Bantuan Dana Hibah. The Ministry of Finance’s Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) team has clarified that the video is a hoax utilising deep fake technology. “The public is urged to be wary of the dissemination of false videos and news impersonating the Finance Minister,” the PPID team stated via its social media account, as quoted on Monday (11/5/2026). Previously, the Ministry of Finance encountered a hoax implicating the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance. Last year, a message circulated on the WhatsApp application from a sender impersonating the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, then held by Heru Pambudi. Hoaxes targeting Finance Minister Purbaya and his staff are occurring more frequently.
