Finance Minister Purbaya Showcases Eid Outfit for Rp125,000 from Tanah Abang, Admits to Bargaining

Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Salahuddin Mosque in the Directorate General of Taxation area, Jakarta, on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

Purbaya appeared modestly dressed in a sage green koko shirt, which he bought directly from the wholesale centre at Tanah Abang Market, Jakarta. He stated that the garment cost around Rp125,000 for the short-sleeved model.

“At Tanah Abang back then… 125 short-sleeved,” Purbaya boasted, as seen in a video circulating on social media on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

Purbaya admitted to haggling over the price when buying the koko shirt. When asked if a minister should still bargain, Purbaya responded casually. “We’re allowed to save, right?” he said.

Besides the relatively cheap price of the koko for an official’s class, media crews also highlighted an opor stain visible on his shirt. Purbaya just laughed while trying to cover the soup-stained part. “A little bit,” he said briefly.

It is known that Purbaya previously conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at Tanah Abang Market on Monday, 9 March 2026. The visit was carried out to ensure that the public’s purchasing power remained stable ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, amid issues of global economic slowdown.

During the inspection, Purbaya visited several clothing shops and interacted directly with traders and buyers. He wanted to observe transaction activities in the field firsthand as a real indicator of the public’s economic condition.
