Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated his intention to strengthen the rupiah against the US dollar to Rp 15,000 from its current level above 17,600.

Purbaya said he will take new steps next week to bolster the rupiah’s value. He also mentioned the new regulations on Foreign Exchange from Natural Resources Exports (DHE SDA), which are set to take effect from 1 June 2026, will support the currency’s strength.

“Next week (this week) I will take action on the exchange rate. Once implemented, the foreign exchange proceeds from coal and palm oil exports will remain here,” Purbaya told reporters at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (25 May 2026).

Purbaya is confident the new DHE regulations, launching early June, will strengthen the rupiah. Besides DHE, the Finance Ministry has already implemented rupiah stability measures through bond market interventions to maintain stable bond yields amid foreign capital outflows.

“Bonds have fallen, yields have fallen, so foreign investors are still entering alongside us. When bond prices stabilise, they will not hesitate to enter. We will maintain this moving forward,” he said.

According to Purbaya, the government has conducted interventions last week, purchasing approximately Rp 2.2 trillion in government bonds in the secondary market.
