Finance Minister Purbaya secures USD 17 billion in funding from AIIB
Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has secured funding worth USD 17 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for national development during the 2025–2029 period. The funding commitment was one of the main achievements in a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian Finance Minister and AIIB leadership in Beijing, China. “This is a very significant contribution to financing development projects in Indonesia,” Purbaya said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday. The funding is part of a Multi-Year Rolling Pipeline that has been discussed with the AIIB. Although some programmes had been designed previously, the Indonesian Government succeeded in ensuring the continuity of the funding commitment from the multilateral institution to support the national development agenda in the coming years. The AIIB conveyed its interest in opening a representative office in Jakarta to strengthen cooperation and improve the effectiveness of coordination in implementing AIIB-supported projects. The plan is said to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the AIIB. “The AIIB is also interested in establishing a sort of branch office in Jakarta. We certainly welcome this intention and I hope that by June next year the office will already be established,” said Purbaya. The state treasurer said the AIIB maintains a high level of confidence in Indonesia’s fiscal condition. According to him, there are no concerns from the AIIB regarding national fiscal management or Indonesia’s future economic prospects. “They are confident in our fiscal credibility and creativity,” he added. The meeting with the AIIB was part of the Finance Minister’s work agenda in Beijing, which also included meetings with global investors and Chinese financial authorities.
