Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has declared he no longer wishes to see his ministry’s staff arrested by law enforcement authorities, as has frequently occurred at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).

To prevent further arrests in future, Purbaya has called on Ministry of Finance personnel to strengthen their integrity, including through internal oversight conducted by the Inspector General.

“If it still happens, it means the Inspector General hasn’t done his job well. So I don’t want our staff arrested by the Attorney General’s office, the Anti-Corruption Commission, or the Police,” Purbaya said when inaugurating newly rotated Finance Ministry officials at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

He has issued special instructions to the Finance Ministry’s Inspector General Awan Nurmawan Nuh to impose strict sanctions on staff found to lack professionalism and integrity in their work before they are arrested by law enforcement authorities.

“So our image doesn’t become too tarnished going forward. Remember, Inspector General, you will need to watch over them closely,” Purbaya added.
