Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that Indonesian consumer purchasing power is increasingly strengthening.

He stated that this is reflected in various key indicators that depict domestic economic activity.

“Indeed, it appears that consumer purchasing power continues to improve and strengthen from this perspective,” said Purbaya during a press conference on the state budget at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

The first indicator Purbaya cited to illustrate the improvement in purchasing power was data from the Mandiri Spending Index (MSI), which showed an increase to 360.7 in February 2026.

Subsequently, the trend in automobile purchases has increased, with growth of 12.2% in February 2026, although motorcycle sales grew only approximately 1%.

Retail sales, he said, saw their index rise by 6.9%, in line with the consumer confidence index, which remained at an optimistic level despite declining in February 2026 to 125.2.

Finally, he noted, the manufacturing performance index reached its highest level in the past two years, as reflected in the Manufacturing Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI) at 53.8% in February 2026.

“All of this demonstrates that purchasing power is improving, indicators are improving, and positive trends are continuing,” he affirmed.
