Finance Minister Purbaya outlines strategy to accelerate Sumatra disaster fund disbursement

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will accelerate the disbursement of disaster funds in Sumatra to ensure swift allocation. One of the strategies involves a new approach, promptly following up on reports from ministries and agencies (K/L) on a regular basis. He cited incomplete documentation submitted by relevant ministries and agencies as a key obstacle in fund disbursement. ‘The Finance Ministry’s approach is now different. Previously, ministries would submit requests and then be left unattended,’ Purbaya said at the DPR in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 May 2026. ‘But now I’ve told the directors-general to follow up with ministries whenever documentation is incomplete,’ he added. Previously, Purbaya confirmed that the ministry had prepared a Rp60 trillion efficiency-driven budget for Sumatra disaster recovery. However, he noted the funds have not been fully utilised to date. ‘When asked if the Finance Ministry had funds ready, I confirmed they were available from the start of the year. We allocated Rp60 trillion by the end of last year, but this year’s usage has been lower as it’s being split for infrastructure development,’ Purbaya said. He hopes the new Finance Ministry approach will enable faster disbursement of disaster funds for Sumatra. The DPR is holding a task force meeting on accelerating post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra to discuss current developments and progress. Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, chaired the meeting attended by relevant ministers and police officials to discuss next steps in post-disaster reconstruction. ‘To make efficient use of time, I will now open today’s coordination meeting,’ he said.
