The education budget is allocated at Rp820.9 trillion in the 2027 state budget (APBN). This amount is up 13.9 percent from the previous year’s Rp720.8 trillion.

Despite the increase, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said there are no plans yet to raise salaries for teaching staff or teachers.

“Not yet, not yet, no salary increase for teachers is planned,” Purbaya told reporters, as quoted on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

Nevertheless, Purbaya said he did not rule out the possibility of a teacher salary increase during the course of the year. This could happen if the government has surplus budget funds along the way.

“But that does not mean it is impossible. As time goes on, if the government has extra money and it is indeed needed, we can add it too. But for now it is not planned,” he said.

It is known that in the 2027 draft state budget (RAPBN), the allocation for the education sector stands at 20 percent, in line with the constitutional mandate.

“A little on the education budget: in accordance with the 1945 Constitution, the state prioritises an education budget of at least 20 percent of the APBN to support the delivery of national education,” Purbaya said.

The budget is channelled to the Indonesia Smart Programme (PIP) for 22.1 million students and the Indonesia Smart College Card (KIP Kuliah) for 1.1 million university students. In addition, the government is currently preparing Garuda elite schools and people’s schools.

The government continues to distribute School Operational Assistance (BOS) to 54.2 million students, Early Childhood Education Operational Assistance (BOP PAUD) for 6.3 million learners, as well as payment of the Teacher Professional Allowance (TPG) for around 1.7 million civil servant and non-civil servant teachers in the regions.
