Finance Minister Purbaya Has No Intention of Implementing Tax Amnesty Again, Unless Ordered by the President

Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised that he will not implement tax amnesty or the tax pardon programme again, unless he receives a direct order from President Prabowo to do so.

“Yesterday I was asked whether there would be another tax amnesty. I said, I will not implement tax amnesty while I am the Minister,” said Purbaya at the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

“Unless there is an order from the president,” he added.

He stressed that the implementation of tax amnesty is not black-and-white, but involves many grey areas that can lead to complexity. According to him, this could instead create uncertainty, potentially leading to legal risks in its execution.

“So I am protecting my colleagues in tax affairs (DJP). Going forward, we will not implement tax amnesty again, unless ordered by the President,” said Purbaya.

“So that you can work calmly, just implement what exists now with discipline and continue to maintain integrity,” he stated.

It is known that previously, Purbaya had emphasised that his side would not hold another Tax Amnesty or tax pardon, during his time as Finance Minister. Because, according to him, the tax amnesty programme actually creates vulnerabilities for tax employees to be bribed, leading to investigations against them.

“While I am the Finance Minister, I will not carry out tax amnesty,” said Purbaya during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Monday, 11 May 2026.

In addition to creating vulnerabilities for tax employees, Purbaya also assessed that the tax pardon programme would create uncertainty for business actors.

“Rather than that, just implement the correct tax procedures,” he said.
