Finance Minister Purbaya Dismisses Rumours of Dismissal Due to Illness with Laughter

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has dismissed claims that he collapsed and was hospitalised. Purbaya laughed when he heard the rumour that he was about to be sacked because he could not get out of bed.

Purbaya explained that he had visited the hospital for a check-up.

“Yes, I was admitted to the hospital but then discharged. It was a routine check-up, normal,” said Purbaya during a media gathering at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Central Jakarta, as reported by detikFinance on Monday (4/5/2026).

Purbaya admitted to hearing many rumours about his health condition. He denied reports that he was at risk of being dismissed due to his physical state.

“There are lots of rumours, aren’t there? They say I can’t get up from bed anymore, and I’m going to be sacked,” joked Purbaya with a laugh.

Purbaya also dismissed claims that his blood sugar had spiked high and confirmed that his current condition is normal. He then explained his previous back pain issue.

“Who said (high blood sugar)? It’s normal, now 118. Now it’s safe, 118 is normal again. The back is normal,” explained Purbaya.

Some time ago, Purbaya did complain of back pain. He mentioned needing injections at eight points to be able to stand and carry out activities.

“It’s still painful to this day. This is back pain. I was injected yesterday at eight points. If not, I wouldn’t be able to stand like this,” said Purbaya during a media briefing at the Financial Education and Training Agency (BPPK) in South Jakarta on Friday (24/4).

Purbaya explained that the complaint was suspected to have arisen due to fatigue, given the packed work schedule in recent days.
