Finance Minister Purbaya Comments on the Fate of 13th-Month Salary for Civil Servants Amid Budget Efficiency Measures
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that the policy on the 13th-month salary for civil servants (ASN) amid ongoing budget efficiency measures has not yet been finalised. According to him, the decision on whether the 13th-month salary will be subject to efficiency cuts is still under discussion. “It is still being studied (efficiency on the 13th-month salary for ASN),” said Purbaya during a conversation with the media at the Ministry of Finance complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. Purbaya explained that his side cannot yet provide a final decision and has asked the public to await the results of further studies. “Wait for it,” he said. It is known that the government is currently implementing budget efficiency measures in line with the significant potential pressure on energy subsidy spending due to high global oil price fluctuations. Several cost-saving options are being discussed, including the possibility of adjusting incentives for ASN, which is still under review. Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the 13th-month salary for ASN would be paid in June 2026. Recipients of the 13th-month salary include civil servants (PNS), government employees with work agreements (PPPK), TNI soldiers, Polri members, state officials, and pensioners. The payment scheme for this year’s 13th-month salary has been regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 9 of 2026. The components of the 13th-month salary include basic salary, attached allowances, and performance allowances in accordance with applicable provisions.
