Finance Minister: Prabowo Administration Settles Rp218.3 Trillion BLBI Bond Debt
The government has finalised the repayment of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI) bond debt amounting to Rp218.3 trillion to Bank Indonesia (BI). Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that this settlement marks the end of the government’s obligation to BI regarding bonds issued to manage the 199t-1998 financial crisis.
“The Rp218.3 trillion bond debt has been paid; it is finished. We have completed the payment. With this, we truly close the historical chapter of bond issuances for handling the 1997-1998 crisis, which was resolved during the administration of President Prabowo Subianto,” Suahasil told reporters at Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/09/2026).
According to her, the obligation was recorded as government debt to Bank Indonesia and was paid gradually through the State Budget (APBN). Suahasil noted that the final payment was made in August 2026, utilising non-tax state revenue (PNBP) derived from Bank Indonesia’s remaining surplus.
“When Bank Indonesia operates, it may experience a surplus. When it experiences a surplus, there are regulations regarding how much of that surplus is transferred to the state treasury, and we record it as non-tax state revenue,” explained Suahasil, following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.
