The Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, visited the Integrated Sekolah Rakyat (SR) 2 in Bulak District, Surabaya, East Java, to ensure that all facilities and infrastructure are ready and fit for purpose. “These school facilities must be utilised effectively,” Purbaya stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

During the visit, the Finance Minister toured the daily routes of the students, ranging from the dormitory environments to the classrooms. He also inspected the condition of furniture, air circulation, and the readiness of classrooms and desks to ensure all facilities function properly to support the teaching and learning process.

The establishment of Sekolah Rakyat is a tangible manifestation of the Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality, free, and sustainable education for children from underprivileged families. It serves as a strategic step to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through early-age investment in human resources.

The Finance Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting human resource development through Sekolah Rakyat, backed by funding from the State Budget (APBN).

For the 2026/2027 academic year, Integrated SR 2 Surabaya will accommodate 270 students, comprising 30 primary school students, 120 junior high school students, and 120 senior high school students, including 98 students in Year 11. All students are selected through the Family Hope Program (PKH) scheme as part of an effort to accurately reach children from low-income families. The teaching and learning process is supported by 131 staff members, including 41 teachers, 37 foster parents, 10 dormitory supervisors, and 43 other support staff to assist students in their daily lives within the dormitory environment.
