Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that with the national economy growing 5.29 percent in the second quarter of 2026, he is optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth could approach 6 percent in the second half of 2026.

According to him, second-quarter 2026 economic growth was already fairly good, even though external conditions during that period were less supportive due to the surge in global oil prices.

“We were able to grow 5.29 percent (in Q2 2026), which is already fairly good amid such circumstances,” Purbaya said at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

For the second half of 2026, Purbaya confirmed that the government will optimise all engines of economic growth so that the growth rate can also increase.

Moreover, a number of measures have also been prepared by the government, such as adding liquidity to the economy and encouraging a reduction in deposit interest rates.

“Including pressing the interest rates demanded by special mission vehicles (SMVs) under the Ministry of Finance, so that they can fall to a low level. That way, banks can place or provide loans at lower interest rates,” he said.

Regarding the contribution of the processing industry, whose share of gross domestic product (GDP) has declined, Purbaya assessed that this condition does not necessarily reflect a weakening of the manufacturing sector.

He stressed that the government will utilise various policy instruments in the second half of 2026 to strengthen manufacturing sector growth in line with the potential recovery of global demand.

Regarding economic growth in the Maluku and Papua regions, which was recorded at 1.36 percent year-on-year (yoy), Purbaya acknowledged that the sources of growth in that area are indeed not yet optimal.

Therefore, the government will coordinate with Bappenas to formulate a strategy to accelerate economic growth in those regions.

“We will study this more deeply, and we will ensure that there is an engine of economic growth that can be activated there,” he said.
