Finance Minister Causes Stir at Tanah Abang Market as Visitors Call for Cash Distribution

Jakarta—Tanah Abang Market, Block A in Central Jakarta, became festive following the arrival of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Visitors appeared enthusiastic in welcoming the minister’s arrival. Some greeted him, shook his hand, took photos with him, and even asked for money.

According to CNBC Indonesia’s observation, Purbaya arrived around 1.00 p.m. (WIB) wearing a white shirt and black trousers, accompanied by several staff members from the Finance Ministry.

Purbaya immediately visited one of the Muslim clothing shops and tried on items.

“That looks good, sir, very good,” commented one visitor as Purbaya examined a green koko shirt.

The atmosphere grew increasingly lively. Several women’s voices could be heard calling out requests to Purbaya.

“Sir, distribute money here, sir,” the women shouted.

There were also voices asking Purbaya to share holiday bonuses (Tunjangan Hari Raya/THR) and pleading for assistance for Aceh disaster victims.
