Finance Minister Assures Tanah Abang Traders: Do Not Be Afraid
Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa delivered a reassuring message to traders at Tanah Abang market whilst conducting an inspection of commercial activity in the area ahead of the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
During the visit, Purbaya expressed his desire to shop for traditional koko shirts, prayer caps, and sarongs. After entering one trader’s stall, he was seen trying on a sage-green koko shirt, complete with a two-piece trouser set.
In the process, Purbaya conveyed an important message to traders, stating he would ensure grassroots economic growth, particularly amongst retail merchants. “That’s why I ask for your support. We will continue to drive the economy, regardless of what others say, we’ll push economic growth from below so it advances further and grows stronger,” Purbaya said at Tanah Abang, Jakarta, on Monday (9 March 2026).
During the visit, Purbaya also urged traders not to worry about the current economic conditions. “I’ve only been in office for five months, so don’t be afraid, within a year things will definitely be different,” he stated.
In response, one trader expressed hope to achieve prosperity through their work. “I just hope to be prosperous, nothing more, nothing difficult,” the trader said.
