Final Tribute Moment from Defence Minister Sjafrie to Juwono Sudarsono

Jakarta - Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin gave his final salute to the body of former Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono, who was laid to rest at Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta on Sunday (29/3/2026).

The moment of tribute was evident when Sjafrie, acting as the Inspector of the Ceremony for the funeral procession, placed a wreath on behalf of the state, nation, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) on the grave.

During the procession, Sjafrie was seen speaking to the aide of the Ceremony Inspector. He requested that Juwono’s photograph face towards the family seated under the white tent, not towards the grave.

“Try to turn that picture of Mr Juwono to face the family,” said Sjafrie.

After the funeral ceremony procession concluded, Sjafrie approached the grave again.

He appeared to pray with both palms raised in front of his chest. Then, Sjafrie saluted once more and left the location.

It was previously reported that former Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono passed away on Saturday (28/3/2026).

“It’s true (Juwono Sudarsono has passed away),” said Rico when contacted by Kompas.com on Saturday.

In the confirmed information, Juwono passed away at Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta around 1:45 PM WIB.

The information also explained that Juwono was a son of the nation with dedicated service to the country, particularly in the fields of defence and international relations.

Rico stated that the body was laid in state at the Quiet Room of the Ministry of Defence in Jakarta on Sunday (29/3/2026) at 7:30 AM WIB.
