Final Stage of Roy Suryo's Pretrial Hearing, Verdict Scheduled for Monday 20 July 2026

The pretrial hearing filed by Roy Suryo regarding his designation as a suspect in the alleged defamation case concerning the fake diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has entered its final stage. The Sole Judge of the South Jakarta District Court, I Ketut Darpawan, has scheduled the reading of the verdict for Monday (20/7). This confirmation was delivered by the judge during a follow-up hearing for the submission of conclusions from both the applicant and the respondent at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (16/7). “The verdict reading, according to schedule, will be read on Monday, 20 July,” said Judge I Ketut Darpawan in the courtroom. The case, registered under number 108/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL, represents Roy Suryo’s legal effort to challenge the validity of his suspect designation by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. Roy was charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) concerning allegations regarding Jokowi’s fake diploma. In their petition, Roy Suryo’s legal team requested that the court declare the Investigation Order Number S.Tap/S-4/1899/XI/2025/Ditreskrimum/Polda Metro Jaya, dated 7 November 2025, invalid. The legal team argued that the suspect designation was unlawful because it did not meet the requirements for sufficient preliminary evidence. They referred to Constitutional Court Decision Number 21/PUU-XII/2014 in conjunction with Article 184 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code as the basis for their argument, asserting that the investigators’ procedures did not meet the minimum evidentiary standards stipulated by law. Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya, as the respondent, also submitted their concluding documents to the judge. With the submission of documents from both parties, all stages of the pretrial examination have been completed. The public now awaits the sole judge’s final decision early next week to determine whether Roy Suryo’s suspect status will be annulled or if the case will proceed to the main trial.
