Final Honours for Retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu Held at Ministry of Defence Today
An atmosphere of solemnity enveloped the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) office in Central Jakarta on Monday morning (1/6). The remains of Ryamizard Ryacudu, Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019 and a retired Indonesian National Army (TNI) general, arrived to receive the nation’s final honours for his exceptional dedication and service.
According to observations at the scene, the funeral convoy carrying the late general and his family arrived precisely at 7:30 AM WIB. The coffin, draped in the Red and White flag, was respectfully lowered by TNI personnel before being moved to the mourning area in front of Kemhan’s Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall.
Colonel (Arm) Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at Kemhan’s Secretariat, stated that the mourning ceremony represents the nation’s highest appreciation.
‘As a final tribute to the late general’s service and dedication, the Ministry of Defence is conducting this honour and mourning ceremony,’ Rico said in an official statement.
The mourning procession at Kemhan was led by the Indonesian Deputy Defence Minister serving as the parade commander. After the laying of the remains, the body is scheduled to be officially dispatched from the Kemhan office to its final resting place.
Known as a true soldier with a distinguished career in the Indonesian Army, Ryamizard served as Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005 before being appointed Defence Minister by President Joko Widodo for the 2014-2019 term.
During his tenure, Ryamizard made significant contributions to strengthening the national defence system and safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. For the Ministry of Defence family, the late general was not merely a former leader but a role model whose legacy includes unwavering dedication and robust strategic policies.
The late general’s remains will be buried with full military honours at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery (TMPNU) in South Jakarta. The funeral ceremony is scheduled to be led by the current Indonesian Defence Minister as a final tribute to the general.
