FINA suspends Surya and Bai

LAUSANNE (Reuter): China's Bai Xiuyu, who set a world best
for the women's 50 metres backstroke at the World Cup in Malmo,
Sweden this year, has been suspended for a month for using the
stimulant ephedrine.

A spokesman for the International Swimming Federation (FINA)
said yesterday Bai had been taking Chinese pills for a cold
during the meeting on March 15-16.

The statement said the Indonesian federation had reported the
suspension of Catherine Surya for two years for using the
anabolic steroid nandrolone.
