JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Promotional media for the film titled “Aku Harus Mati” at various points in Jakarta were immediately removed by advertising vendors following a reprimand from the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP).

The advertisements were considered unsuitable for display in public spaces due to their disturbing title.

“So independently, it wasn’t us who took them down. We coordinated with the vendors, and alhamdulillah, they responded well. The vendors really acted quickly to remove them,” said the Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday (5/4/2026).

The monitoring process is still ongoing, involving field personnel to ensure no similar materials remain.

Satpol PP has opened channels for public complaints regarding advertisements deemed unsuitable for public spaces following criticism of the promotional materials for the film Aku Harus Mati.

Satriadi emphasised the importance of the public’s role in reporting findings of inappropriate advertisements.

“If there are any in other places, the public can provide information to Satpol PP, or through social media channels as well,” said Satriadi.

“Actually, what is displayed is regulated by the central government related to making advertisements,” he added.

“Well, this is also control from the public, that this is not appropriate, not suitable to be displayed, because psychologically children will be disturbed by the statement shown,” he continued.

Previously, the promotional materials for the film Aku Harus Mati triggered a wave of public criticism.

Large billboards with striking text “AKU HARUS MATI” and visuals of bright red eyes were considered inappropriate for installation in open spaces.

Many complaints emerged on Threads, one from the account @fongmeicha who assessed the advertisement as “unhealthy”. She also questioned where to report to have the billboard removed immediately.

She highlighted the confusion of children aged 7–10 years who see the text without understanding the film’s context.

The film Aku Harus Mati itself was produced by Rollink Action, directed by Hestu Saputra, and stars Hana Saraswati as the lead actress.
