Fillipino workers face deportation
MANILA: Some 9,000 Filipinos working illegally in South Korea
failed to take advantage of an amnesty program and now face
deportation, the Philippine Foreign Secretary Delia Albert said
on Tuesday.
She said 32,000 other Filipinos had made use of the amnesty
last year under which illegal aliens were allowed to voluntarily
return home then apply for a work permit to let them legally
return and work in South Korea.
Under the program which expired in August, those who rejected
the amnesty offer will be deported and will be barred from ever
visiting the country again.
Albert said the Philippine government would make
representations for those not covered by the amnesty, but it was
not clear how much help could be extended. -- AFP
