PHILIPPINES: Almost one in five people in the Philippines has
lost confidence in their country and would live abroad if given
the chance, an independent polling firm said on Tuesday.
Manila-based Pulse Asia Inc. said a March/April survey of
1,200 adults nationwide found that 19 percent agreed with the
statement, "this country is hopeless and if possible, I would
migrate to another country".
Pulse Asia said that this amounted to 8.2 million Filipinos
who would migrate if given the chance.
The sentiment was strongest in the capital Manila, where 26
percent said they would move abroad given the chance.
The desire to live abroad was even stronger among the elite,
with 31 percent agreeing with the statement.
Pulse Asia said that those with knowledge of life overseas
seemed more willing to migrate than others. --AFP
