Filipino expelled for abusing visa
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Immigration authorities have deported a Filipino man for misusing his tourist visa for working in a company.
Head of the Manado immigration office M. Marcho said yesterday that Alegendra Lukas Aguja had been arrested during a crackdown on illegal aliens. He was deported late last month.
Marcho said immigration officials would investigate reports that a large number of foreigners were working illegally in Sangihe Talaud, a regency bordering the Philippines.
He said authorities had identified Sangihe Talaud as a transit point for Filipinos attempting to enter Indonesia illegally.
"Strangely, many of them have been accommodated by local security officials on the pretext that the aliens' business activities help improve the local economy," he said as quoted by Antara. (pan)
