Fijian killed by his own catch
Fijian killed by his own catch
SUVA (Reuter): A Fijian fisherman choked to death when he
tried to kill his catch in the traditional way by biting its head
off, police in Suva said yesterday.
Sergeant Josese Lako said the head of the fish slipped and
lodged in 50-year-old Samueal Taoba's throat during a
spearfishing trip on Saturday.
Taoba, from a village in the north of Fiji's second largest
island Vanua Levu, died within minutes despite attempts by
another fisherman to pull the head out of his mouth.
Such deaths are not uncommon in the South Pacific.
