Fiji threatens to boycott Games
SUVA (AFP): Anger at France's decision to resume nuclear
testing in the South Pacific spilled into the sporting arena
yesterday as Fiji threatened to boycott the South Pacific Games
in French Polynesia.
Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the southwestern
Pacific island nation had always objected to any form of nuclear
testing by any country in any environment.
"If France goes ahead with the testing despite the strong
opposition from the countries in the region, Fiji will definitely
reconsider its position regarding participation in the South
Pacific Games in Tahiti," he said.
