The plastic warehouse fire in Gang Semut, Jalan Peternakan Raya, Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, had not yet been extinguished by the fifth day, Friday evening (22 May 2026). According to Kompas.com’s observations at the scene, firefighting operations at several points continued by officers from the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat). At least four fire engines remained parked at the scene. One vehicle was positioned on the side of Jalan Peternakan Raya, while the other three operated inside the factory premises. A blaze remained visible in the central area of the warehouse rubble. The blaze appeared after the debris at the top was cleared by heavy equipment (an excavator) before being doused by firefighters. Meanwhile, black smoke continued to billow into the air, even enveloping the nearby residential areas around the warehouse. Residents and warehouse security personnel were forced to operate around the site wearing masks. Nevertheless, production activity at the plastic factory, whose building is situated behind the warehouse, continued as normal. Workers were seen moving in and out of the factory carrying out plastic production, even as flames still raged within the warehouse building. “There is still fire inside the rubble,” said Syaiful when contacted by Kompas.com by phone on Friday, adding that the situation had improved significantly compared with earlier. The number of firefighting vehicles on site had dwindled to four, with a total of 20 personnel, down from two days earlier when 18 units and 90 personnel were required.
