Fifteen Communication Experts Visit Jusuf Kalla's Home
Fifteen communication science experts visited the residence of former Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March 2026. They held discussions regarding government communication patterns during the visit.
The meeting lasted nearly four hours. The experts arrived at Kalla’s residence around 16:00 WIB and discussed with the senior Golkar party politician until 20:00 WIB.
Effendi Gazali, a political communication expert who participated in the meeting, said the gathering was initiated by the experts themselves. “This was not an invitation from JK. We usually have meetings with JK every Ramadan,” Effendi said after the meeting concluded.
During the forum, according to Effendi, they discussed various communication issues related to the current government. He assessed that the current communication pattern of President Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet still requires improvement.
“Simply put, we can say there is a communication gap between the president and government that are implementing various programmes and what is understood by the people,” said the former professor of communication science from the University of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Jusuf Kalla said the meeting was a form of courtesy visit with the experts. “While listening to issues that arise in society,” Kalla said.
According to Kalla, during the meeting the experts assessed that government communication with the public often does not work well. Nevertheless, Kalla said the forum was not aimed at becoming an opposition to the government. “But to improve the way government communicates so that the people can hear it,” said the two-term former vice president.
At least fifteen communication experts visited Kalla’s residence on Saturday. Besides Effendi Gazali, there were academics Lely Arrianie from the London School of Public Relations, Gun Gun Heryanto from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Hasrullah from Hasanuddin University, and Suko Widodo from Airlangga University.
In recent weeks, Jusuf Kalla’s residence has frequently been visited by academics and former officials who wish to discuss with the former vice president. Before the political communication experts, Kalla’s residence was visited by economists and former ambassadors.
