Field hospital begins operations, child patient surgery runs smoothly
The Field Hospital at Golo Dukal Stadium, East Nusa Tenggara, has begun serving communities affected by the earthquake, marked by the successful thigh bone surgery on a young boy.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, orthopaedic specialist from Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital Surabaya, Dr. Basuki, performed a pin insertion operation on the thigh bone of an 11-year-old child in the operating theatre of the Ruteng Field Hospital.
“This facility is very helpful for health services, especially for surgery when hospitals or other health facilities are affected by the earthquake or cannot be used,” he said.
According to him, field hospital facilities can provide important support for medical services in disaster-affected areas. Dr. Basuki expressed hope that field health facilities like this can continue to be developed so they are able to serve more people who need medical treatment in disaster situations.
He also hoped the child patient who underwent surgery can recover quickly and return to his activities.
“Hopefully this young boy can be healthy again and become a great runner because he is a child who loves to run,” he said.
The operation of the operating theatre marks the beginning of the functioning of the Field Hospital built by the Health Ministry’s Health Crisis Centre team at Golo Dukal Stadium, Manggarai Regency.
Chairman of the Composite EMT Team of the Health Ministry’s Health Crisis Centre Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, Dr. Franky Rumondor, said the Field Hospital was built quickly under difficult conditions.
“We built the field hospital in almost 30 hours in the early hours with cold weather conditions and with 13 personnel who built this field hospital,” said Dr. Franky.
A total of 13 personnel were directly involved in the construction process of the Field Hospital. They were deployed by the Health Ministry’s Health Crisis Centre to strengthen health services for communities affected by the earthquake in Manggarai Regency.
Dr. Franky appreciated the hard work of all personnel involved so that the Field Hospital could be immediately used to support medical services for affected communities.
“Today we are grateful that the first operation has taken place at the field hospital located at Golo Dukal Stadium in Manggarai Regency. And these 13 people are great people,” he said.
According to him, the construction of the Field Hospital is part of the Health Ministry’s rapid response efforts to ensure disaster-affected communities continue to have access to health services, especially when permanent health facilities are disrupted by the earthquake.
“They are extraordinary people sent by the Health Ministry’s Crisis Centre to help the community, our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster in Manggarai Regency,” he said.
With the Field Hospital now operational, the Health Ministry continues to strengthen health service support for communities affected by the earthquake in Manggarai Regency. The facility is expected to support the continuity of health services, including the treatment of patients requiring medical procedures and surgery during the post-disaster recovery process.
