FID should be honest
FID should be honest
From Rakyat Merdeka
As a public institution, the Indonesian Forum for Peace (FID)
needs to be transparent regarding its meeting with President
Abdurrahman Wahid. FID, in the meeting, had provided the
President with information regarding the possible mastermind
behind the terrifying bomb blasts on Christmas Eve. However, the
accuracy of the information is questionable as FID appeared to
have reluctantly parted with it as if they were under pressure
from military generals.
Many circles expect a public institution like FID to serve as
a public "infrastructure" to build a civil society. But if this
institution is composed of people prejudiced by their own
political agendas, the public will definitely be disappointed.
In fact, FID's objective and cause are good, but unfortunately
the activists in it have their own political goals. So, it's
better that FID be dissolved. Don't let our hope to build a civil
society as one of the pillars of democracy be hindered by
unethical conduct such as hurling accusations.
I would like to remind the FID's activists to always be smart
and accurate when making statements.
