FIA cancels Indonesia Rally
PARIS (AP): The world governing body of motor sports Wednesday dropped the Rally of Indonesia from the 1998 race calendar.
The FIA, in a short statement, said it had withdrawn the September rally from the schedule because of "the current situation in Indonesia and difficulties with transportation of material for competing teams."
The FIA said the schedule would be reduced from 14 to 13 events. It said it was too late to substitute a rally in China, which was tentatively set for June 19-22.
Indonesia could return to the calendar in 1999, the FIA said.
