FH UI Sexual Harassment Case: Mendiktisaintek Ensures Victims Receive Protection
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto has ensured protection for the victims of sexual harassment involving students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia (FH UI). The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) has also coordinated with UI authorities to monitor the case. “I have also coordinated with the Rector, and we are continuously monitoring the progress of handling this case, including ensuring that the affected parties receive the appropriate protection and support,” Brian stated in his remarks on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Sexual harassment, Brian stressed firmly, is a serious violation that degrades human dignity. “The world of higher education or universities anywhere should be a safe, dignified, and integrity-filled space for the entire academic community,” Brian said. Based on Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments, every university is required to establish a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments (Satgas PPKPT). “This regulation requires every university to form and strengthen the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments (Satgas PPKPT), as well as to guarantee the protection and recovery of victims,” Brian said. Previously reported, 16 students from FH UI admitted to committing online sexual harassment against 27 victims through conversations in WhatsApp and LINE groups. The Chair of the Faculty of Law UI Student Executive Body (BEM FH UI), Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, said the case came to light after the perpetrators issued an apology in the class group. He explained that the apology was made on Saturday (11/4/2026) heading into the early hours of Sunday (12/4/2026) by students from the 2023 batch, but without clear context. According to Dimas, the form of harassment generally involved degrading messages with a sexual tone. “Most of it is in the form of degrading messages with a sexual nuance,” Dimas said.
