Ferry victims' bodies recovered
EAST LOMBOK, West Nusa Tenggara: Search and Rescue teams over the weekend found only five more bodies of the 32 passengers listed as missing when the ill-fated Bahana Nusantara sank in the Alas Strait on Thursday evening.
"The rescue team found five bodies floating near the scene of the accident, bringing the total number of bodies recovered to 10," Zainal, a Kayangan port official, said yesterday.
The ferry, carrying 94 people and 17 vehicles, sank about one hour out of Kayangan port on the island of Lombok.
Fifty two passengers were saved.
Antara reported that the five bodies recovered yesterday had been identified as Nafisah and Ayu Sundari from Sumbawa Besar, H. Nasrudin from Kediri, West Lombok; Yogi Martop from Praya, Central Lombok, and the body of a women who has yet to be identified.
Officials have also yet to identify the five bodies found on Friday.
The search and rescue team consists of representatives of the Indonesian Navy, the seaborne unit of the provincial police, members of local diving clubs and fishermen.
"We will do our best and ask the national search and rescue team to help find the remaining victims," East Lombok district head H.M. Sadir said.
