CEBU, Philippines (AFP): A ferry with 181 people on board ran aground early on Sunday amid stormy weather in the central Philippines, but there were no casualties, the coast guard said.
The 475-ton Cherry Rose hit ran aground while trying to dock at the port of Baybay, about 600 kilometers southeast of Manila at about 5 a.m. Sunday (4 a.m. Jakarta time), said Commander Jaime Sagario of the Cebu coast guard.
The vessel left this central port late on Saturday and ran into a tropical depression, he added.
All 160 passengers and the 21-member crew were off-loaded to coast guard vessels and boats of local fishermen by noon, Sagario said.
