Akuwan, a 63-year-old ferry passenger crossing the Bali Strait, died suddenly at the LCM pier of Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Monday, 1 June 2026. The victim is suspected to have suffered a heart attack while attempting to cross to Java. Upon receiving the report, Gilimanuk Naval Post officers immediately coordinated with port health officials. Along with other security personnel, the joint team swiftly proceeded to the scene to provide first aid. “Initial medical checks were conducted by monitoring the victim’s blood pressure and pulse,” Yuli explained. As the condition worsened, the victim was evacuated to Gilimanuk Health Centre by ambulance for further treatment. He arrived at the health centre at approximately 08:32 WITA and was immediately attended to by medical staff. However, just three minutes after intensive examinations, the victim was declared dead. “At 08:35 WITA, the victim was declared deceased with initial suspicion of a heart attack,” Yuli stated. Yuli emphasised that all on-site personnel had done their utmost to save the middle-aged man’s life. “Initial response measures were carried out by the port’s standby officers. A sick passenger was taken to the health centre and subsequently declared dead,” he stressed. “The victim was a daily labourer who also worked as a trader and was registered as a resident of Krajan Hamlet, Olesari Village, Glagah Subdistrict, Banyuwangi,” he added. Relevant authorities have now taken procedural steps, including inter-agency coordination at Gilimanuk Port for the repatriation of the remains to the victim’s hometown. “The body has been transferred to the funeral home,” Yuli concluded.
