Ferry Crossings Between Nusa Penida-Sanur and Pemenang Temporarily Closed Due to Stormy Weather
Ferry crossings from Nusa Penida, Klungkung, to Sanur, Denpasar, and Pemenang, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were intermittently suspended on Tuesday (24/2/2026). This followed extreme weather conditions that have affected Bali for the past few days.
Head of the Class II Nusa Penida Port Management Unit, Ni Luh Putu Eka Suyasmin, said that the closure was initially implemented at 08.30 local time due to bad weather. However, during the day, crossings resumed as the weather began to improve.
A few hours later, crossings were again suspended from 15.00 local time until now, until the weather improves again. She could not yet confirm when crossings would resume.
“We are implementing an opening and closing system, depending on weather conditions at the Nusa Penida port and the destination port,” said Eka Suyasmin, Tuesday (24/2/2026).
The closure was implemented along the route taken by the fast boat, which was hit by rain and wind. In addition, there was thick fog, making it impossible to carry out crossings.
“If forced, it is feared that something undesirable will happen, so we decided to postpone the departure,” said Eka Suyasmin.
All prospective passengers who wanted to cross to Sanur or Pemenang had been informed about the policy. The passengers are said to understand the postponement for the sake of mutual safety.
“If the weather has improved, we will reopen the crossings,” said Eka Suyasmin.
Meanwhile, ferry crossings from the Padangbai People’s Port, Karangasem Regency, to Gili Trawangan, NTB, were also temporarily closed on Tuesday morning due to extreme weather. However, services have now returned to normal as weather conditions have improved.
“This morning, the crossings were temporarily postponed, but now they are back to normal,” said Head of KSOP Padangbai I Ketut Muliana.
