Ferry crossing improved
SERANG, West Java: PT ASDP, the state-owned lake and ferry
crossing service company, has improved its ferry services between
Merak and Bakauheni by using a faster boat for this coming Idul
Fitri holiday.
The Marina Batam-7, which can carry 128 passengers, can
complete the course across the Sunda strait in 30 minutes, half
of the normal time required by bigger ferries.
Antara said that the Marina Batam-7, which has been operating
on the Tanjung Pinang-Batam service, will be an addition to the
14 ferries that are already plying the Sunda Strait. Six fast
boats have also been deployed to cope with the expected surge in
passengers in the next few days, ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday.
Marina Batam-7 will begin full operation in the Sunda Strait
on Friday. (emb)
