Ferro Nickel Exports Regulated, Airlangga Says EV Ecosystem Remains Secure
Economic Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto assured that the development of the national electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem would not be impacted by export management policies through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI).
Airlangga stated that the government continues to promote downstreaming of the EV battery industry, encompassing the production chain from concentrates, precursors, cathodes to anodes.
“The EV ecosystem involves further downstream products starting from concentrates, cathodes, anodes to precursors. This is still being encouraged as it is the ecosystem under development,” Airlangga said at a press conference at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta on Sunday (31 May 2026).
Airlangga noted that the regulation differs from the EV battery industry chain, which is currently a national downstreaming priority.
“What was restricted is the first derivative process, namely ferro nickel,” he said.
According to Airlangga, the scope of regulated ferroalloy commodities refers to specific Harmonized System (HS) codes covering various iron alloy products.
Previously, the government began tightening the management of strategic natural resource exports by implementing a single-export mechanism through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI).
In the initial phase, the government will apply the system to three main commodities: coal, palm oil, and ferroalloy.
These three commodities play a significant role in Indonesia’s trade.
