Ferrari’s first electric vehicle, the Luce, is one step closer to becoming the first model in the history of the Italian brand to undergo independent crash testing by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). An unnamed Ferrari spokesperson confirmed that Euro NCAP testing is part of the performance targets set for the electric vehicle.

As reported by Drive on Tuesday, the Ferrari Luce has the potential to become the most expensive vehicle ever tested by Euro NCAP, with an estimated price of US$640,000 (approximately IDR 11.4 billion), requiring at least four vehicles for destructive testing. Historically, sports cars and supercars, including those from Ferrari, have generally not participated in such safety assessment programmes due to low sales volumes, extremely high prices, and target markets that differ from mass-market passenger vehicles.

In addition to testing procedures being designed for mass-market passenger cars, the reputational risk of potentially receiving poor results is often considered disproportionate to the benefits of a safety rating, which is typically not a primary consideration for Ferrari buyers. However, the Luce is not a traditional supercar, but rather a four-door, five-seater vehicle designed for family use. The Luce even features two ISOFIX child seat attachment points on the rear bench, indicating a more practical orientation compared to typical Ferrari models.
