Ferrari Luce Unveiled: First Electric Vehicle Marks New Era for Maranello

Ferrari has officially launched its first electric vehicle, the Ferrari Luce, at Vela di Calatrava – Citta dello Sport in Rome, Italy, on 25 May 2026. The location was chosen for its historical significance to Ferrari. On the same date in 1947, Ferrari secured its first victory in Rome with the Ferrari 125 S at the Rome Grand Prix held at the Baths of Caracalla circuit, driven by Franco Cortese. Ferrari emphasised that electrification is not intended to replace conventional engines but to expand the potential for design, performance, and driving experience. The name ‘Luce’ is derived from Italian, meaning ‘light’. Ferrari describes the vehicle as a symbol of the brand’s new future direction. In line with Ferrari tradition, all key components are developed in-house at Maranello, from the electric motor to the battery pack. Ferrari stated the Luce project involves over 60 new patents. Ferrari President John Elkann said the Ferrari Luce represents a significant step in redefining the brand’s future. ‘With the Ferrari Luce, we are once again redefining the boundaries of what is possible. Today, we are not only launching a new car but also ushering in a chapter that turns our vision into reality, reinforcing Ferrari’s tradition of anticipating and shaping the future,’ Elkann said in a statement on Monday, 25 May 2026. ‘This major leap in product innovation can only be achieved through process innovation; that is why we have chosen to embark on new collaborations, such as with LoveFrom for the design. And, as always, our research and engineering excellence has been harnessed to serve driving emotion, without compromise,’ Elkann added. The Ferrari Luce was designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design studio led by Jony Ive and Marc Newson. The presence of an external team has been said to bring a fresh perspective to Ferrari’s design language.
