A female university student identified as DA (22), in Cikarang Barat, Bekasi Regency, fell victim to fraud during a cash-on-delivery (COD) transaction for a smartwatch, suffering losses of Rp 2 million.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Cikarang Barat Police Station, AKP Engkus Kusnadi, explained that the fraud came to light after the victim filed a report. DA said she had come into contact with the two perpetrators after posting on Facebook that she was looking for an Apple Watch.

“The post was then responded to by the suspected perpetrators, who offered the item for Rp 2.9 million. Communication continued via WhatsApp until both parties agreed to meet in person,” Engkus told reporters on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

Engkus explained that DA eventually met the two suspects in front of a clinic in the Kampung Jarakosta area, Danau Indah Village, Cikarang Barat Sub-district, Bekasi Regency. During the meeting, the victim received the watch she intended to purchase.

“During the meeting, the suspected perpetrators showed the watch being offered. However, citing technical reasons, they did not immediately connect the device to the victim’s mobile phone,” Engkus explained.

“The victim then transferred Rp 2 million to a bank account in the name of one of the suspected perpetrators. After the transaction was completed, the perpetrators disappeared, blocked the victim’s number, and the watch turned out to be non-functional,” he said.

After receiving the victim’s report, the Criminal Investigation Unit at Cikarang Barat Police Station immediately launched a pursuit of both suspects. The two perpetrators were subsequently apprehended.

“Following up on the report, the Criminal Investigation Unit moved swiftly to conduct an investigation and ultimately succeeded in apprehending two suspects, identified as UA and DA, on Tuesday (17 February 2026) in the Cikarang Selatan area,” Engkus revealed.

Engkus explained that both suspects were taken directly to the Cikarang Barat Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings. Cikarang Barat Police also urged the public to exercise greater caution when conducting online buying and selling transactions, particularly through social media, and to verify the security and authenticity of goods before making payments.
